What my body taught me before my mind caught up

My gut knew before I did.
Long before I could admit anything was wrong, my body was already telling me. The bloating that showed up no matter what I ate. The exhaustion that sleep never touched. The tightness in my chest that I explained away as stress, as being busy, as just being an adult with a lot going on.
I ignored every single one of those signals for way longer than I'd like to admit.
The stories we tell ourselves instead
It's so much easier to blame food, or lack of sleep, or "just needing a holiday" than to sit with the real question. So that's what I did. I tried every elimination diet. I changed my supplements. I did everything to my body except ask it what it actually needed.
Because the truth was harder to look at. My body wasn't reacting to gluten. It was reacting to a life I'd built that no longer fit me.
I was holding so much tension I couldn't feel anymore. Swallowing words I wanted to say. Staying quiet to keep the peace. Showing up as the version of myself that felt safe instead of the version that felt true. And my gut, my energy, my sleep, they all kept the receipts even when I refused to.
Symptoms are not random
This is the part I want you to actually hear, not just skim past. Symptoms are rarely random. They're often the most honest part of you, speaking up when everything else has gone quiet.
Bloating, fatigue, inflammation, that low hum of anxiety you can't quite name. Sometimes these are about food. But so often they're about something underneath the food. Unexpressed emotion. Chronic stress your nervous system never got to release. A life that asks you to be someone you're not, day after day, until your body starts protesting the only way it knows how.
I spent years treating symptoms without ever asking what they were symptoms of.
The turning point wasn't dramatic
I wish I could tell you there was one big moment where it all clicked. There wasn't. It was slower and messier than that. It was noticing, again and again, that my body felt different depending on how honest I was being with myself. Lighter on the days I said what I actually meant. Heavier on the days I shrunk myself to keep things comfortable for everyone else.
Eventually I couldn't unsee it. My body had been trying to tell me the truth the whole time. I just hadn't been listening.
Your body is not against you
If you're in the thick of unexplained symptoms right now, I'm not saying it's all in your head, and I'm not saying diet and lifestyle don't matter. They do. But I am asking you to widen the question. Not just what am I eating, but what am I carrying. Not just what's wrong with my gut, but what has my gut been trying to tell me.
Your body isn't working against you. It's communicating with you, in the only language it has.
The question is whether you're ready to actually listen, even if what it's saying is inconvenient. Even if it means admitting something in your life needs to change, not just your breakfast.
Where I am now
I'm still learning this. I don't think it's a lesson you learn once and finish. But I trust my body more than I used to. When something feels off, I've stopped rushing straight to what supplement might fix it. I ask first: what am I not saying, what am I not feeling, what am I avoiding.
Usually, that's where the real answer is.
If any part of this felt familiar, I'd love to help you listen to what your body's been trying to say. Book a free call and let's start there. 🤍
